Morning Thrumbolio, hope you had a nice weekend.
I love the Root on Monday mornings, always ready to take shit head on. Good Morning, Michael!
I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m on LeBron’s side of this while still believing that his initial comments were dumb. The team is capped out with guys LeBron wanted. What more does he expect? And yet, Barkley’s comments went way over the top and LeBron hit back with aplomb, which I appreciate. Nuance, man.
Oh man, that would be even better. I’m sure BC would be onboard, and hopefully JC, but if we had GWB and GHWB (health willing) on our side that would really go a long way to unifying a (somewhat) bi-partisan resistance movement.
I think he’s testing the waters honestly. I don’t recall a president speaking out so soon after a new administration has taken office to encourage people to continue protesting. I imagine there are some very serious, high-level conversations going on - and even the Koch brothers aren’t happy about this shit right…
Or, a coalition of former Presidents ?
What do we do though? I’ve been protesting, signing petitions, donating, calling my representatives, trying to get more involved in local politics, etc., but the frustrating thing is that it seems like no one can stop him. I don’t think “he doesn’t get it”, I think the message you can take from Phil is that he didn’t mean to use a word with perceived racial undertones, but he did mean to condescendingly insult Lebron’s partners as “leaches”. That criticism might be fair, but it would also be fair for Lebron to criticize Phil for riding…
Racism is only if you are physically assaulting a minority or using an agreed upon racial slur. Literally nothing else is racist. In fact, perhaps you are the real racist for bring it up.
And I just don’t understand that part of it, the word.
Phil Jackson got into this mess because he insulted Lebron’s friend and Lebron pretended their are some racial undertones to saying “posse” that didn’t exist until Lebron decided it was to his benefit. There are no “good guys” in this story, just good gossip.
