I live in a tourist destination frequented by midwesterners and Canadians. I constantly face those situations where you meet someone and have the same conversation you’ve had 100 times before. You already know what the next question will be. Yep, I live xx, grew up xx, job is xx, relationship status is xx.... I don't

Yeah, family being a safe topic is a 50/50 shot, at best. Sure, I love to talk about my toddler and annoyingly overhare pics and videos if you ask. A few years ago though, family was the last thing I wanted to talk about.

Haven't flown out of Italy, but I'd put Japanese airport food up against anything else in terms of quality and freshness.

Ok that, but with a cloyingly sweet honey mustard that wasn’t mentioned in the menu - Gordon Biersch HNL.

After multiple bad experiences, I’ve successfully avoided that place for a decade now. It’s good to know that there are good dining options next time I get stuck there.

DFW has much better options than Chilis, but you do you.

At OGG (Maui, Kahului) the best food is, there’s no reason to be sitting at this airport long enough to need food.

Sorry. I sometimes get a little overzealous pointing out when trivia tidbits are wrong (especially local legends and corporate creation myths). Sake in the US dates back over 100 years and SakeOne has only been in operation since the 1990s.

I think it is closed now, but they even had a location in Tokyo at one point.

A few years ago, my friend’s dog got into some baked goods that another friend had made. The dog slept for like 18 hours but was fine afterwards. For the rest of the summer, any time the baker was around, the dog was right at their heels following everywhere they went.

SakeOne is not the first legal sake brewery in the US by a long shot. They do make great stuff though.

It really depends on what you’re wanting to do and what the seasonality of the place is like, but in general this is good advice for those without school age children. Hit the low season up and get discounts when the kids are back in school but the weather is still nice.

Limited vacation time and it’s an extra day off? Kid’s activities/sports take the week off for the holiday? Not advocating for it, but I can see reasons why some people would take vacation those times.

Muffuletta might fall into the category of things that are typically better to buy than make that a post yesterday discussed. Sure, you might make a better one at home, but I’m not here for overnight marination for sandwich parts.

Yeah, not sure why this is a thing that needs to be told to adults?

Thanks. The ginger dressing really is an underrated highlight of good Japanese restaurants.

I like your beer recommendations, but I’d add Old Town and Hopworks Urban Brewery.

Afuri and Pine State Biscuits are awesome. Haven't been to Bollywood Theater, but based on your other recommendations, I should give it a try.

Really good craft beer > really good home brew > decent craft > macro > average to bad homebrew.

Justin Blackmon was another lower rated recruit who won the Biletnikoff award, twice. Gundy and company have done well with finding the underrecruited guys and developing talent, but you still prefer the 4s and 5s if you can get em.
