Try Harold Schecter’s ‘Fiend’ instead. There’s not much more information on Pomeroy in Montillo’s book beyond what’s said in the interview. It was really disappointing.
I cannot recommend this book enough. Even though it looks like a trashy true crime book there’s so much more information on the case in here than in Montillo’s ‘Devil in the White City” wannabe. ‘Wilderness’ is a meandering slog.
It’s also a much better book. There’s more pages about Melville in Montillo’s than the murderer; it’s a mess.
