Um, this is a set of the remastered trilogy so I take some issue with the headline. ::pushes glasses up::

“When such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of...”
I’ve been able to watch all kinds of shows airing in the states on Netflix. Riverdale, Better Call Saul, and now Discovery. It’s been pretty great. Amazon Japan got me American Gods. The only show I’ve had to pirate so far is Game of Thrones.
He can’t be shit on enough.
To me that was the point, these young naive guys taking on a war bigger than themselves. They feel like they have power but they’re really in over their heads.
Posters will complain that their Star Wars is too Star Wars while Disney laughs all the way to the bank.
I had the joy of picking up used needles in the parking lot. Probably should not have done that, but no one else felt like figuring out what the proper procedure was until weeks afterward—despite our library being in the center of a community battling a heroin addiction.
I spend hours combing through digitized primary sources on local and state history sometimes. I don’t have physical access to a library right now, but when I did, I loved browsing the archives and just learning about random bits of local history. Can’t find that stuff on the internet.
I had to write a paper on this film when I was in library school.
Not in the way they exist now. The library systems we have now came from an early 20th century model. Prior to that libraries were often subscription based or limited to certain members. Also, stacks were closed, which meant patrons had to go through librarians to access materials. The early 20th century welcomed the…
You learn to handle stupid questions without passing judgement pretty quickly as a librarian.
I really related to Sam’s Citadel story on Game of Thrones this past season. Lots of bodily fluids and being ignored by administration.
I feel adequately prepared for any job after 6+ years in public libraries. I can handle anything, at the last minute, while juggling five other jobs simultaneously.
Ah, ok. So for women to get ahead we should continue to bend to the needs of our male co-workers’ fragile emotional state, never criticising, never critiquing behaviours that have been socially embedded in them even when they impact our ability to do work or get ahead professionally. And we will refrain from referring…
I loved this show for a lot of reasons, but I really loved seeing Issa’s job struggles as someone who has also worked in similar nonprofit jobs. So many of these shows about young women in big cities center around their dreams to become famous or a professional creative or at least a “career woman”. It was really…
Is it belittling to call out a real thing that happens to women based on social inequality? I’m sorry if it hurts your feelings. It hurts my feelings when dudes belittle my work in front of my bosses while simultaneously stealing credit for my ideas and labor. One thing makes you mad on the internet, the other hurt my…
I wouldn’t personally use the word mansplain in a professional context, but surely you see a difference between those words when there is a verifiable imbalance in gender equality.
So you would prefer to confront systemic sexism by not talking about it?
I imagine Disney will be successful for folks who have kids, if the price is right. Their catalog is just so deep.
If someone wants to have access to anything and everything all at once then yes, they’re going to pay a lot for it. But I love paying only for what I want to watch. HBO for the months Game of Thrones is on and then maybe another month if I find some documentaries or shows I’ve missed that I want to catch up on. Amazon…
