If you say you want diversity and you’re not hiring (and retaining) diversity, you don’t really want diversity. If you want a diverse staff, you will take the steps necessary to get one, whether it’s training programs or recruiting in non-traditional outlets or scholarships or whatever.

someone asked how cabs worked. cabbies are not employed by the cab company, they lease the cab. in exchange for the lease they get the car, and insurance. they are also screened by the cab companies. Cabbies DO need tips, because they xan be even more fucked than waiters. But not as fuckedas Lyft and Uber drivers.

It’s an arbitrary line. The guy at the coffee shop doesn’t really provide a different service than the guy at McD’s or even the guy at Walmart and in my state, he doesn’t get paid any different either. Somehow it’s just become customary to tip just one out of the three.

I can’t speak for every cab company but I drive two nights a week to suppliment my income. Where I am, North of Boston, we do not get an hourly wage. We split the fare with the company 50/50 and we pay for gas.

“He once resisted shaving “because a casting director was looking for someone with stubble”

Dude, *how long does it take you to grow stubble*??

From Uber’s own website:

I want one SO BAD. Just for that moment when my kids come out to the kitchen in the morning and a T. rex is scrambling some eggs. That one use alone would be worth it.

my sister ubers on the side. the only money you get are from tips. they don’t pay you an hourly wage and you don’t get reimbursed for gas. she says that so many people don’t tip.

The Uber app for both drivers and customers actually encourages you not to tip? So, I’m not sure why people feel expected to or why drivers expect it? When you sign up for it, it actually tells you to not accept tips and to decline them.

I don’t use cabs often (once every 5 years or so). I’m sick of having to tip for everything. Don’t regular cab drivers get paid an hourly wage? It might not be a great hourly wage. But under that argument don’t I have to tip my WalMart cashier also? Tip only if you truly think you got something special. The Uber

I say it's for the cats because they have their own stuffed animals.

Yea, this doesn’t really need an infographic...

We can all do better. But honestly, the pretense that women of color don’t say divisive things? Come on! They have a perfect right to be angry and to vent as do we all, but it’s not like no one ever makes a sweeping statement that doesn’t include lots of other groups and isn’t controversial.

But that’s not the point she was trying to make! Her point was that she had brought this up before and been attacked.

But this is how easy it is to drop yourself in the soup, people of color does not just refer to African Americans, that’s unconsciously making the same assumption that she did. She was, to some degree, using African American as a synonym for POC. There were Latinos (Del Toro and Isaacs) who were also surprise

I think it’s easy, especially in speech, to make a perceived distinction between women and African Americans (or any other or all ethnicities)- you did it yourself (and I do too) when you said, ‘women and people of color,’ I’m sure you didn’t mean to suggest that women of color don’t fall into the group we call,

There is just no smooth way to express ‘women, and by women I want to make it clear that I’m including non-white women!!,’ especially in speech. Personally, I think it’s parsing words beyond belief to keep accusing women of not including other women when they use the word, ‘women.’ And I can’t even really imagine the

Now playing

As an Alaskan who was there while she was governor. . . . she has definitely gotten crazier. She crazied it up for the 2008 election. . . .and, yes, now she is even more incoherent. It seemed like she was high on helium the whole time. It could be that she was actually high—or something—or that being a right-wing

Right? I mean, I never agreed with her or thought she seemed particularly well informed, but this is so much worse than I remember.

I think it was a touch of the spotlight and the fact that it then left her that is making her incoherent. Plus I would imagine as her son got arrested the day before, she was probably drinking the night before. And I can vouch for hangovers being the worst for forming proper sentences.
