IIRC Jones actually asked to direct Warcraft. The guy is a big fan of the original game.

You should really check out Doctor Strange. Without spoiling much, it does steer clear from many recent superhero movie clichés.

He did pretty great in Sully.

Pfft. I expect nothing but definiteness from The AVClub.

Olympus Has Fallen edges out White House Down in my book, only because the White House raid scene in the former is absolutely great. Everything else is… ok.

Agreed; loved the final showdown scene in Doctor Strange. It was not only a clever twist but very well within the comic book character.

Not #1 by any stretch, but it was a hell lot better than other superhero offerings this year. My vote for the best one is, by far, Deadpool.

I'm really fucking psyched about Logan. I'm aching for a superhero movie focused on telling a compelling story instead of setting up sequels and having the mandatory super-long-final-fight scene.

I know, right? There's material in that game for a trilogy.

Good man!

"Go back to Fuckheadistan" has to be the cringiest action on-liner since that "lets play a game of fuck off" from the original.

London Has Fallen is as dumb as you imagine it to be, but i'll be darned if it was't also a lot of fun.

Doctor Strange was pretty awesome, Zach. In your heart you know it to be true.

(second) Also, Suicide Squad should share the spot with BvS. DC seems incapable of producing a decent superhero movie as of lately.

One thing i found hilarious about The Conjuring 2 is when they showed those obviously fake pictures about the so called "Enfield poltergeist" and the lengths they went to faithfully recreate them in painstaking detail. Such a great production work for such a poor, boring script.

LHF is a lot of fun, if you're not expecting Casablanca. "One highly implausible scenario after another" is a fitting description for 90% of all action movies out there - i can live with that if the end result is entertaining.

Hey, Apocalypse gave us that awesome Quicksilver scene. For that alone i'm willing to give it a pass.

Bob Odenkirk FTW. Close the contest.

Also, where the hell is Now you see me 2? (a.k.a the most unnecessary sequel ever, a.k.a i-cant-beleive-they-didn't-call-it-now-you-dont).

It really was, which is a shame because the source material could've easily made a much compelling movie. DC was in a rush to create an universe on a single take like Marvel did after half a dozen movies and it shows - BvS is a mess. The only really standout for me was Baffleck, which i had very serious reservations
