Holy fuck there is such HUGE problem around the way Black women are treated by health professionals in this country, particularly around childbirth and it’s so upsetting. Serena Williams is an uber-celebrity married to a billionaire and she almost died because no one would listen to her during her labor! As a Black

Yes and it’s not hard to google it: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/05/insider/capitalized-black.html

Yeah I watched all the episodes and thought there was potential but it never really came together. Very few laughs over the season for me, I really like those actors and sadly, I think the cast deserves sharper writing. The cast exception for me was the guy who plays the former teen star, he has like the opposite of

Yeah I feel like I’m the only one but I have very warm feelings for that movie. It came out when I was in high school and my high school boyfriend was a geeky WASP with a lot of family money (I’m a WOC) and this was like the only relatable rom-com for me. I wasn’t even a fan of rom-coms generally at the time, it just

My husband and I just re-watched all of South Side and it is just such an amazingly good show. And so slept on, I never hear it discussed!

Yeah, I just feel like he’s the actor having the most fun on the show and people respond to that. It’s not that deep.

Ok but seriously, I love the Rock’s sticom and I was worried that it was partially intended to groom us into accepting a Rock presidential run.

You don’t have to like the characters but you do have to want to spend time with them and the problem with this show is that I actively hated the characters and did not enjoy watching them fumble through their privileged, empty lives. The Sopranos had interesting, compelling characters and interesting stakes. I agree

This actually becomes an important plot point.

Wow you just sent me down an insane rabbit hole of looking up what Hugo Schwyzer is up to these days, hadn’t thought of him in years. Whoa.

He will always and forever be Stew the Meat Man from Strangers with Candy to me!

Just chiming in to say that as a little Blerd who watched BMW on TGIF faithfully, the addition of Angela to the cast was a big fuckin deal at the time. I remember the arc, where Ryder Strong’s character finds a bag and decides it belongs to his dream girl then at the very end they reveal the girl - and she was Black!

LGBTQ+ discourse is really bogged down with women who claim to be bi because sometimes they flirt with women but they only ever seriously date or marry men. It’s not actually presenting anything other than heterosexuality.”

Haha, don’t say it. But yep. I don’t consider that a high point for the avclub but it was surely memorable!

Does the mention of Beth Ditto in this article make anyone else feel like they’ve been on the avclub for way too long? Just me? Never mind.

I didn’t know this was a thing and this review makes me very excited to watch it! Thanks!

Yeah I’m Black and the Rue outcry was sooo telling. My favorite was a tweet that was like “you made us care about Rue then told us she was Black!” And I feel like that sums up the whole outcry, they’re soooo mad at being prompted to care about non-white people.

Yeah sadly this is all straight from the text, Mysaria being perceived by the people of Westeros as an untrustworthy, foreign whore is important to the plot. She is described as being distinct from the average Westerosi in appearance and accent, prompting hatred & suspicion. GRRM loooooves his pulp/action serial

Yeah I think Hargitay has a dedicated and vocal fanbase and producer credits at this point, so they won’t mess with her but Giddish is fair game to replace with younger eye candy. I do think two older women was too many, like that 30 Rock joke about NBC’s policy on Black people.

Old people also want to look at young, hot, blondes. She mentions that she was in her late 20s when she started, more than a decade ago. This SCREAMS ageism to me. Too bad she doesn’t have Hargitay’s star power and leverage.
