It's a shame that TV shows no longer have the luxury of finding their legs, but you have more faith than I did. I'm not convinced it was ever going to rise above "middling to decent".
Because HamNo got off on being a curmudgeonly grump about everything?
Yeah, I could have phrased it better. I liked that the podcast had two hosts who had built a rapport, but I didn't care for Devin's treatment of Amy at all. He sometimes offered an interesting perspective, but the bickering and talking over Amy got old fast and I'm not going to miss him. Instead, I would like Amy to…
To be clear, I like Rebecca even though she's selfish and manipulative, but I don't think your enjoyment of the show will hinge on that either. The show subverts a lot of romantic comedy tropes, and Rebecca's clearly not an aspirational character, so youll probably be ok.
Not sure if this is a pro or con for you, but her character is incredibly flawed, verging on unlikable. You're supposed to think she's a mess, and by season 2 it becomes even clearer that she has actual emotional issues. I love the show and the music is great, but you may or may not enjoy that aspect.
Ok that bodes well. For some reason his writing puts me off, but I have no way of explaining what actually bugs me. It's entirely possible it's a "me problem".
Also, how do you like Bobby Finger?
Didn't like it?
I'm not sure this will get seen, but I'll ask anyway: should I bother with Who Weekly?
I don't particularly want to drink with war criminals, but that's just me.
I'm not convinced O'Reilly knows what a podcast is, either.
Were you a commenter back in the day? That's where I first used this handle. It really makes me mad because I swear they used to be better. Jezebel was the first site to make feminism accessible to me, and they had great educational articles and a cool group of commenters who actually tried to explain things to each…
Bill Nye was on a segment with Kathie Lee last week, and the whole thing was weirdly uncomfortable.
I'm surprised Jezebel hasn't written a thinkpiece positioning her as a feminist hero.
Exactly, and it's not like they have a bunch of great sitcoms anymore so I literally have no reason to support them other than The Good Place.
Ugh, I would stop watching NBC on principle if they didn't have The Good Place. Seriously, screw NBC.
I'm about to listen to it, and I agree about Paul. Once I heard him on Gilmore Guys, and I couldn't believe how much funnier he was when he was just trashing the show. It was also shocking how much more he curses when he's not talking about bad movies.
Also the way John's atheism was used as a justification really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm an atheist too, and as such I know the only legacy I'll leave behind are my stories and my reputation. Sure I'm not going to haunt someone or cry sad tears from heaven, but that's not why you choose to respect a dead person's…
I liked S-Town, but the last few episodes skeeved me out a bit. It felt unethical for a journalist to disclose things that were told to him off the record, and I'm not sure it was worth the risk. I liked the show overall, but it tiptoed into salaciousness at times, and I'm not sure Reed was entirely altruistic in…
