Well, from personal experience, my sister’s school district refused to move a kid who was bullied to the point of serious injury (not going to say more than that for anonymity’s sake, and there might be a suit in progress, so). It happens. I do think most school districts try hard in this circumstance, but it doesn’t

TBH, the writers don’t seem to know how to make a Batman movie either. Like yeah, the Batman parts of BVS were better than the Superman parts, but they still weren’t good. And I’d argue that they missed a significant chunk of what makes the character great.

Oh, thank god. I thought it was BIZARRE. It’s like Zach Snyder has no idea how real humans act.

I also don’t understand why Lois spends like 60% of the movie soaking wet.

I suspect this is one of those things that varies widely depending on state law and the specific school district.

The other classes might already be at max enrollment. Or who knows, this might just be the latest in a string of shitty behavior and the parents are sick of it.

In some school districts, you’re not allowed to change schools. If you don’t like your assigned school then tough cookies. Schools also have a maximum enrollment, so if the other nearby schools are full, they won’t take her.

I prefer a pencil to powders or gels as I think it gives you more control. Personally I do not fill in my entire brow—I do the top and center tips of my brows and go more lightly on the bottom. I wear dark glasses frames and I feel like not filling in the bottom of my eyebrows so much gives a break between the glasses

“Cat Pictures Please” didn’t do it for me, but I loved Fifth Season. What were you pulling for instead?

That’s what happened here. All of these works were excellent pieces of fiction. The pieces that fell below No Award were ones that clearly lacked literary merit and were just on the shortlist because of the Puppies’ assholery (take a look at the Best Related Works category for example). Several works that placed above

Because generally the normal people in the SFF fandom don’t want to be dicks. Yes, banning Calista House might be justified, but it’s also a validation of the Puppies’ secret liberal cabal theories. And honestly, if you look at this year’s stats, it looks like this ridiculousness is dying out on its own.

Except...one group is actually deliberately colluding to sway the awards and the other is just nominating things they like so...

But here’s the problem...whiteness and maleness is still treated as the default. No one reads a novel about or by a white man and says, “boy! This is really a great exploration of being a white guy. How unusual for it to be about a white guy.” No one ever tries to say that books by white men are only for other white

You gotta keep in mind though, most Hugo voters have probably read everything Stephenson’s written, so he doesn’t have the same newness factor. I’ve also been seeing a lot of fatigue with long novels lately.

Middling reviews can also indicate unusual storytelling forms/new ideas that just don’t jive with everyone. Okorafor’s noted that a lot of people have knocked it down for being on the short side of novella length, and that’s not really an indicator of quality.

??

Huh. Maybe somebody mixed that batch wrong. It should just be colored horseradish.

That...is not what fake wasabi tastes like. No idea wtf you ate though.

Probably not, since a lot of the reason why places don’t use real wasabi is how it immediately begins losing flavor when ground and cannot be preserved. Fancy places with real wasabi grate it table-side to avoid this.

Yeah, but that’s an issue with how we treat DV survivors, not with DV survivors themselves. Who wants to come to court to face their abuser when you have no money, are struggling to care for your child, and know that court is expensive and time consuming?
