NPR recently interviewed the two journalists who have been covering this story and a couple of things: 1) They refuse to identify the girl in the story or show pictures because they believe that no matter how much she says some of the acts were consensual, they believe her to still be a victim. 2) She entered into

My mom’s intern is terrified to break-up with her boyfriend tonight. They are in college; he is a football player and a complete asshole. She is the nicest person, would do anything for someone in need and he treats her terribly. When he gets angry, he loves to call her a “stupid fucking bitch/slut.” She lives with

The wife’s family is adamant that the husband killed her and staged her suicide. Crazy crazy crazy.

His wife’s death was suspicious and after he committed suicide and left that note, people are thinking he killed his wife as well.

You guys like doing this in the comments of stories like this, and while I appreciate your ideological purity, I don’t legally get to call things rape when no one is, as yet, being charged with rape. The woman involved has said the encounters were consensual — although we can argue about that too, because, my God,

Also the ABC 7 headline on the article linked in the post is “Several Officers Accused of Having Sex with Underage Prostitute” and you know, “underage prostitute” makes it seem like she was your standard sex worker who just happened to be a minor. Rather than calling her a trafficking victim.

looking at Oakland rn like

I wonder how much was the parent’s beliefs and how much was marketing. And the oldest one married while they were still a thing right?

Why is this, an ostensibly feminist blog, referring to sexual activity involving multiple adults and a minor who cannot legally consent a “sex scandal”?!

That appears to be a reference to Brendan O’Brien, an OPD officer who died by suicide in May, leaving a note saying he and other officers had sex with a teenager. O’Brien’s wife also died by suicide in the same house 15 months before.

That is a cute blouse. But I'm totally disillusioned with Modcloth at the moment. I bought some dresses from them after stalking the site for yeeeeeears and the quality is just not worth the price.

One of many things that needs to change for this to stop happening is the way we socialize boys and men to handle their emotions. Not every negative emotion needs to turn into anger, crying is healthy, and sadness, grief and disappointment deserve gentleness not ridicule.

His dad caused him to have access to a firearm.

Depressed?? Being depressed after a breakup fucking sucks, but it’s normal. You eat too much ice cream, are maudlin around your friends, maybe have some ill advised hookups or drink too much, listen to sad songs on repeat, and you get. over. it.

Or just accidents. It’s the whole false positives thing from Statistics 101. There are far more gun accidents than there are crimes prevented by guns. If we increase people’s access to and time with guns, gun accidents will soar.

The gun allegedly used in Doolittle’s murder was a .22 caliber revolver belonging to Flores’ father, which has gone missing from a locked cabinet in the house.

THIS. Everyone’s a responsible gun owner, until they aren’t. I’m so sick of the claim that guns are for self-defense against home invasions, considering how much more often they are used to commit domestic violence or suicide.

I hope someone is keeping track of women murdered by present or former partners the way the Post is tracking deaths by shooting. Would be illuminating to see it all in one place.

I swear to god, there should be penalties for people whose guns are used by family members to commit crimes, and no one under 18 should be allowed to handle one.

Flores’ family assisted the Mesa County police department in his apprehension when they revealed that the young man’s car was parked outside his deceased grandfather’s house.
