He says arrogant and mean things to McCoy all the time.

Emotional labor is something people who care about each other do for each other. If you constantly demand it but refuse to reciprocate, that edges into abusive territory.
Teletoon. The block was Oblongs, Mission hill, undergrads and quads. Later quads was replaced by clone high.
YTV only ended up with Adult oriented stuff by accident. Like how they bought buffy as a teen show and never realized how fucking dark the later seasons would get. or how they invested in a bunch of anime after…
I don’t know what you’d call the phenomenon, but one-season wonders tend to be a what-if breeding ground where it’s convenient to focus only on the potential and claim that had a show been given a chance, it would have only become greater, and it was one boardroom’s decision which stood between us and Clerks…
To get Wes Anderson you have to realize that most, if not all of popular fiction deals with the lives of rich people. Wes Anderson is the best at stylizing privilege with great set and costume design. Other than that, he’s just a rich kid with access to famous friends making mediocre movies about rich people problems. …
Hey, the version of Kevin Smith from 17 years ago definitely would have gotten a Netflix deal. Over the past decade though he’s decided to get high and make really bad things. I can’t say I haven’t done the same, myself. But I don’t have a Netflix deal either.
Oh man, does that sound familiar. I grew up in basically the same type of community in the 70s and 80s (when they didn’t call off the first day of deer hunting season, class attendance dropped by about 60%). There were only about 2 other people in school who knew what Dr. Who was, so you can imagine the response to my…
From what I’ve read, Charlie McDermott has zero interest in playing Axl Heck anymore.
I’d be ok with Axl making appearances IF the writers actually wrote some growth into him. Out of all the characters in the show, he was allowed the smallest amount of growth, probably because it was just too easy for writers to generate conflict by going back to the well of “Axl says or does something extremely…
It’s not a bad movie. But for me, it’s just not a movie I find interesting.
I grew up in an area so rural that the first day of deer hunting season was a day when school was called off. Trust me, I know rural areas. And I was a definite outlier in that area - a chubby kid more into Dr Who than running around the woods with a gun trying to kill things. But for me, this movie just felt inert.
Used to be a huge Kevin Smith fanboy about twenty years ago - watched his movies dozens of times, quoted them endlessly, went to see him speak at colleges; completely annoying. And when I watch them now... it’s almost all garbage. BUT - the animated series probably holds up the best of anything. Loved Judge Reinhold.…
I have never quite figured out why Napoleon Dynamite is such a big deal... I recently watched the movie again hoping to understand what I missed and, honestly, found it just as insufferable as I did the first time I saw it. Maybe the humor isn’t for me or something but it seems like it’s just not very good. Which…
A definition of designing is “practicing forethought”, and an old school designing woman was a woman who used cunning and wiles to get what she wanted, almost always in a scheming/dishonest way.
For me, especially in hindsight and seeing how that phrase worked in the special as a whole, it morphed into “I’m quitting this form of comedy”, where this form is one that’s self-deprecatory and humiliating, that transforms her body and life into something palatable to mainstream audiences. So now she’s trying to…
For me, Discovery is basically just a big dumb Star Trek action movie, but it feels more in line with Star Trek than the Abrams movies do, so it’s basically what I had been hoping for when I heard they were making new Star Trek movies.
I don’t mind fan service at all, but at least the Orville is tonally more in line with the past Trek series. I like Discovery about the same but to add in stuff like the Enterprise to a show that feels decidedly un-Trek is a bit offputting. I’d rather the show get it’s own personality set first.
During my most recent rewatch a couple years ago, I was really surprised how much it really is the Shatner-Nimoy show to the exclusion of DeForest Kelley. McCoy, outside of a couple episodes, has virtually no character building scenes and largely exists to burnish Spock’s character or deliver exposition. He’s billed…
First Reformed wants to have a word with you.
Eh, Jillette’s a libertarian. He’s probably fine with whoever’s in the White House if he gets a tax cut.
