It’s not her friends that are gaslighting her though. I think this is one of the rare circumstances where the term is used correctly. In the original movie, the main guy is doing things like flickering the lights, then telling his wife that he didn’t see anything when she questions it, which makes her feel crazy.

So you’re just gonna completely ignore the bit where these women specifically tried to get time off, but were forced to choose between attending court and keeping a roof over their heads? I'm a couple clicks below advocating it.  People who abuse the justice system for personal profit are the worst kind of traitors in my book though.  And further victimizing battered women doesn't win many brownie points in my book either.

Yeah, this is essentially what I said to one of my friends who was nonplussed that his concerns as a crime victim were ignored in the investigation and prosecution: you’re nonplussed because you’re under the impression that this is about you.
