Think of the law as a set of rules that we as people agree to abide. The question of whether someone broke a rule, violated someone’s civil rights for example, is a yes/no question - binary. We can debate the interpretation of a rule ad nauseum. But we do so only in an effort to decide that final ‘yes/no’ outcome…
