    Even on the Ferrari they are stupid in every day driving. They make sense on a Ferrari, on a track. Other than that they are just jerky and rob any connection between the driver and the gearbox.

    In automotive engineering its all about being modular to drive the cost down. Like you mentioned that can be done by chopping off two cylinders to convert a V8 to a V6. You could of course chop another two cylinders to get to a V4, but it will be more expensive to make than a i4.

    In cars its all about production costs. The V4 is more expensive than the i4 and an i4 fits all cars. The real question is why we got much more V6es than i6es, or V8 instead of i8 engines.

    You’d think some mistakes won’t be forgotten. John Howell, a Cadillac product director, kept a picture of the Cimarron on his wall captioned, “Lest we forget.” They let him go 2010, I guess the picture went with him.
