Yep, pretty much. To add insult to injury most of them won’t let you play (at least, online) without updating so you end up waiting for something to download anyway. It’s basically a wash. The only upside is that the discs will be around if something crazy happens and (xbox live and/or playstation network) shut down.

Interestingly enough this generation of consoles no longer have this advantage for physical games. All physical games install to the hdd and then just use the disc for license verification.
