I always buy gender-neutral stuff for babies, even if I know the gender. I loathe clothing that says "Daddy's Girl" or "Man of the House" or whatever. I usually buy little keepsake boxes for the mom and dad to put their first lock of hair and tooth in from haircuts. Also, ducks. Lots of duck patterns.

I had two friends in the past couple years who had baby girls, and while neither protested getting pink things, I personally elected not to pinkify. But I wanted to get them cute little girl things, little dresses and baby stockings.

It really depends on the type of people your friends and family are. When our baby shower rolled around, everyone knew we were having a boy, but they also knew that we preferred gender-neutral items. I put a note on my registry stating that as well. And pretty much everyone honored that. Both sets of grandparents are

That story is frightening. I am currently pregnant and as I near the 'find out if it's a boy or girl" appointment, I am paralyzed with fear. I want to have a gender-neutral shower and basically I want my kids to grow up enjoying all the colors, not their insane socially acceptable blue or pink nonsense. Pink and

It's just as bad for baby boys, too. I got so many outfits with things like "tough guy" or "little stud" on them for my son. First, he isn't a tough guy, he is an INFANT. And second, I take real issue with projecting those labels onto my son. Being a boy does not inherently make him "tough" nor do I want him to feel

And this is why we're not finding out what the gender of our child is. It's just ridiculous. Beside the fact that I'm excited about a surprise, I'd literally rather not know than deal with the gender stereotyping.

Ugh. Yes. People will go out of their way to be assholes and make sure they get your daughter the most insipid crap available if you openly announce that you're not doing Barbie.

So... in your mind East LA /Chola/ Gangster = Latin people? Who is the racist here?

I don't think you can equate what is on Fox News with what all Christian Republicans are doing. My in-laws are rabid Republicans and Fox News fans who attend a conservative church AND they volunteer for Meals on Wheels and drive around on holidays passing out hot soup and sandwiches to the homeless in their city.

"And, yea, Jesus said unto the poor, 'Find thy own bootstraps and pull."

Not only that — but one of the main tenets of being anti-tax and anti-government assistance is that private charity replaces government intervention.

The hypocritical is scary hilarious.

You mean they made this the best nativity scene EVER.

Oh god the maturity argument. What a crock of shit.

It bothers me that the burden of that question always falls to me and not my husbot. It's OK when he says he doesn't want kids, but when I follow up stating the same it's the end of the effin world.

Poor thing. You'll never know what it is to truly love, or how to be a real, mature adult (two things I have heard people say to childless people, ugh).

Sometimes it feels like all the people that choose not to have children are exactly the people I wish raised more children.

Child-free.

I uttered those words this morning as I got ready to drive 20 minutes in the snow.

Three out of three kitties agree that this is a highly desirable career path.
