We don’t even need to be careful about leaving the doors open, because the cats always run away from an open door (even if they love looking through a closed screen door). They have no desire to actually go through it.

Yep. I’m a total cat lover and have two incredibly active cats that have never stepped foot outside the house in their lives unless they were in a carrier. They don’t miss what they don’t know. If you can’t handle cats going crazy (in an adorable way) inside, don’t get a cat.

This is where I’m glad of my heritage. I’ve said variations of the following many times in my life:

My mother was a total feminist and raised me to be completely independent, yet still maintains to this day that women are naturally worse at math than men. She has said this in front of her granddaughters (my nieces), and then wonders why I get mad.

Hats, gauzy shirts, and parasols for any extended time in the sun. I’m ghostly pale and have survived trips to Hawaii and the Sahara following these rules.

Hair. I cannot do hair. I have long, stick straight hair, and it is always either down and in my face, pulled back in a plain ponytail, or (as it currently is) twisted around a pen at the back of my skull since I can never remember to bring elastics. I don’t know how to curl it, style it, do fancy braids, or anything

It’s going to be problematic, that’s for sure. And yet most people easily block out the current injustices in the world, like the fact that so many children have no access to clean water, food, healthcare, or education.

Oh, I’m sure it’s going to be used for both. And I’m not going to argue that humane genome manipulation is inherently good or bad. I just see people’s attitudes towards it taking a sharp u-turn as soon as their own lives (and the lives of their children) are affected.

It isn’t now. But in 30 years when you want to get pregnant? I’d be willing to bet that a visit to a genetics expert could be as ‘normal’ as a visit to the OBGYN.

This is a technology that will never be stopped. I can almost see it becoming similar to abortion in a decade or so: lots of people will use it openly, and lots will openly oppose it but will use it secretly because they’re special and different and it’s completely not the same as when those bad people are using the

I don’t care who is parents are. Anyone who drinks and drives should have their license suspended immediately and indefinitely. If you are caught doing it again, jail time. This is not a victimless crime. Drunk drivers are scum. They are knowingly choosing to get into a situation where the injury and killing of other

I’m not getting a short haircut. My hair is to the middle of my back. It just doesn’t take long to cut.

My hair is longish and stick straight, and with my current style it takes no time at all to cut. My husband’s takes twice as long, and yet I can’t find a hairdresser who will do it for the ‘man’s haircut’ price. This burns me.

I don’t have it in front of me, but it was clear. I probably even specified ‘black’, since those were the examples I focused on.

I was a shit disturber. The teacher loved it, though.

Fun memory: In high school I proved my classmates, as a whole, were racist. In a family studies presentation, I handed out a survey asking their views on different points related to transracial adoption. Unbeknownst to them, there were actually two versions. One had a question that asked if they would have a problem

Her seeming eagerness to get the sequel published makes me wonder if her famously protective sister was actually stopping her from doing what she wanted.

I work with a woman who wears the hijab and is the most fashionably dressed person in our office. She has scarves in every colour of the rainbow to match whatever she wears.

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe I'm so used to sarcasm I see it when it isn't there.

I'll be honest, the first couple times I read this, I somehow skimmed past that line. I thought the brownface comment was exaggeration.
