The Soup is largely the same as it ever was in the Henson era, but with bucketloads more vitriol thanks to the clips coming from the wasteland of cable reality shows and not daytime talk shows. You can tell McHale and his writers truly, genuinely hate these people at times.

When I was 7 or so, my favorite comic in the world was Bill & Ted's Excellent Comic Book. It was balls-to-the-wall crazy shit, and it made me fall for his humor right off the bat. I think your "track" idea is the way to go. Present a historically influential game, then offer a companion game that represents the best of the games it influenced. So, Rogue on one side, Diablo III on the other. That sort of thing.
