I also thought it was a great origin story. There are only so many ways you can show the abuse that Fisk and his mother went through, and they did a great job showing that in a small amount of time.

I think the voice is appropriate for the character. It makes him seem very shy, as in, he doesn't know how to communicate with people well; and so his voice changes as he speaks to someone who isn't Wesley or Vanessa. Also I think it makes him appear larger than life, which is good for a future supervillan.
