It's one of the ones you listed, so it kind of invalidates your argument. Department stores are interested in selling merchandise, period. Not certain merchandise on certain sale days, and other merchandise on regular days.

Example 3 is not true. Not at all department stores at least. I work at one that you listed. They never take stuff of the floor for a sale and then put it back on after a sale. Ever.
