I binged watched this weekend. Now I can't wait for Netflix to have a go at Ramona Q, a dark and gritty take on Beverly Cleary's beloved series.

Yes, I read the books. They uplifted me in spite of the bad things that happened. This series feels like it's fetishizing her past abuse and mistreatment.

I recently had the desire to rewatch the old Megan Follows version, and found that it doesn't seem to be available to stream anywhere. The purchase options come down to paying $20 for the older DVD with borderline picture quality, or like $35 for the fancy remastered, widescreen edition.

Yeah, I have nothing against looser adaptations, nor against the idea behind this adaptation in and of itself. I don't need slavish devotion to the canon. But you can talk about changes you're making without sounding dismissive of the original work, and that's something I really want from someone who's adapting…

What I like about McNulty's casting is that Anne is supposed to be, let's say, not the cutest, maybe? She isn't a goblin by any stretch, but she feels more like a gangly, awkward (allegedly) homely girl.
