To your first point, only back compatible games can run off 3rd party external storage. Games for Series S/X have to be on the internal or official expansion storage to run. You can only “store” Series S/X games on the external, so you have to transfer them over to the MS custom drives before you can play it.

Actually it was sorta an article that made me realize too. Polygon ran a Studio Ghibli theme, where they had a bunch of articles about the studio. One of the articles had a the Totoro cover as giant header image, that’s when I noticed.
