I think your point about "Friends" is right on.

I guess "Friends" and "Seinfeld" are more closely associated with New York but to me it should go to "I Love Lucy" as that show has and will outlast us all. But maybe since they did a season in Hollywood and one traveling Europe and the later episodes had her home in Connecticut it wasn't New York enough.

I don't know about airing on television, but LOTR has become a staple for the holidays in our household. We usually watch the extended trilogy on blu ray at least once between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
