The nice thing is that a lot of stuff in the technical part of Hollywood doesn’t get affected by a movie sucking. The technology was made, looks great, and will get used a lot regardless of the quality of the movie its in.
One of my favorite things about that is that McFarlane and the FG writers actually started referring to their own most random cutaways as “manatee jokes.” The term has also apparently caught on in other comedy writing circles.
I still re-read this series and always stop at book 5. It tells a complete story with the characters and themes you like and you can honestly feel like you aren’t missing anything.
