That adage refers to people trying to make money off of a build. This car would probably take around $20-25k to build (assuming shop hours) depending on how frugal you are and the condition of used items, so it ALREADY does not reflect the build cost.
This is another one of those examples where the market value for this car and how much money everyone commenting has do not overlap. This is an entirely fair price for a clean Sport Pack E46 Touring with a well-done S54 swap. It would cost a lot more to build one from scratch. NP.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but that Instagram account is just a repost bot, and the car wasn’t even on that continent. The G70 was actually filming in Frankfurt and was spotted by a local. Originally posted in /r/Autos on Reddit.

I would be surprised if Wyoming or Montana did it. It’s only recently cars in Vermont have started to last 15 years or more without rusting into the ground.
Considering I usually own 3-4 cars at a time, my girlfriend would probably appreciate it if I sold cars when I’m drunk instead of buying them.
Fellow Vermonter! This is one of my favorite VT car trivia things to point out (another being RPM). Whereabouts in VT?
Vermonter here (owned 14 or 15 cars over the last seven years). My best friend from high school once bought a CRX with a bill of sale on a napkin and nothing else. If you show up with a title for a vehicle over 15 years old, the DMV will literally laugh at you.
Pedantic moment, but...
Who said anything about the SLK? R129 would be the SL. Very much a GT, drives like a W124 but with some extra airflow.
I’m saying my car is in the GT class though. Personal coupe is just a marketing term (although I will concede that the things that I love about the E24s draw me to my W124s as well—and I would hope, to an R129 eventually).
Why would I put skis on my bike rack? To be fair though, in that picture I took off the bike attachment in case I would be hauling parts that don’t fit in the car (exhaust/bumpers etc). Literally infinite uses for the rack, although the car is in storage for the snow season.
Very aware of that on account of it’s my car. Glad it has fans though.
Fair enough, was skimming. Bu Personal Luxury Coupe is still a fad, and to give only one mention to the actual type of vehicle seems unfair to GTs.

I’m assuming you’re not US-based in that case. In the US, the Forester “STI” was a dealer package with some stickers on Mica Blue FXTs. Not a sanctioned STI product, and certainly not upgraded above the regular WRX-sourced drivetrain. It’ll be another fifteen years before anything JDM can show up, so for the purpose…
Read it again. I was talking about the Forester STI big guy...
Um? Both the LGT and the FXT had the WRX-spec engine. The Forester “STI” was a sticker package that one dealer put on a run of Mica Blue FXTs they ordered. Not an STI anything.
