If the CEL’s not on in a early 2000's Audi, it’s burned out.

[heavy sarcasm]Thanks guys.[/heavy sarcasm] I’ve just spent two hours looking at the Smyth website, strolling through Craigslist looking at donor cars and plotting how to spring this on the spousal equivalent. [basic sarcasm]Thanks a bunch.[/basic sarcasm]
CP. Way too many miles for a four large A6 2.7T even with the 6MT. I’ve got an 01 of these and it’s been the best one thousand dollar car I’ve ever owned. Had 85k on it and some body damage when I got it two years ago. Fixed the damage and have put 30k on it since. Literally runs like a train. Unbeatable for road…
Nah, you can yank the engine with a floor jack. Just have to take the entire front end off the car...
Oh yeah, crazy Z #3: I got a ride around Laguna Seca in an IMSA GT 280Z in ‘79. The car that won its class the following Sunday beating a host of other Z’s and Vettes. It was ... educational.
I’ve been around a coupla or three modded 70's Z-cars. The first one was a built to the max ‘72 in ‘79. 3-litre block with Freddie rods, knife-edged diesel crank (made it a 3...), Jahn’s pistons, topped with an E30 head ported to within an inch of its life, three Webers, Stahl header and so on. I believe it made 350…
Audi B5 S4:
Words fail me.
A coupla years ago I got a one time gig driving cars back from the San Francisco Auto Show at Moscone. A friend’s company was short drivers to move the show cars from the show floor to the storage lot in Hayward; a distance of about 50 miles. The first car I drove that night was one of these.
The thing that’s gonna kill you with the two Lexuses (Lexii?) is the wiring. 20 year old cars got 20 year old wiring and if you’re looking for a clean California (don’t say “Cali”, please) car, they’re gonna have lived in some hot weather and that makes the insulation harden and then it cracks and stupidity ensues.
I DD a similar but no where near as pretty ‘82 Caddy. I’ve owned it for 20 years; it came as a Diesel but when my son blew up the oil burner, we dropped an ‘84 GTI drivetrain into it along with 16v Scirocco brakes. Corrado exhaust. Techtonics lower stress bar. Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs. 95 GTI wheels. Still…
Yep. That’s what I DD right now. Mine is no where near as pretty but it does have carpeting. It also has a rebuilt ‘84 GTI motor and trans along with 16v Scirocco front brakes. Still has the Diesel badge on the tailgate.
Yeah. When I was at Navy school in Millington, TN in 1975, there was a Muira for sale in Memphis. Pretty good shape; a driver not a garage queen. 30k on the clock, IIRC. Red. Eight Thousand Dollars. Yes, $8000.00. Eight large. 8k. What are they worth today? I don’t want to know. Shit, I didn’t have that kind of money…
Yeah, the rest of the story: I bought my Jag, a 67 covered headlight, 3 carb FHC, in Memphis, TN while I was at Navy school. Literally a killer deal: 2 grand; a lot of money at the time for a callow 18 year old E3 sailor, 2000 miles from home. The car needed a clutch but was in pretty good shape otherwise. 66k on the…
Hammer. Nail. Head. The most beautiful car you can purchase, hands down. Or hammer down as the case may be. Yeah, it’ll pass about anything on the road except for a BMC dealership, but no other car I’ve ever owned garnered so many hot wimmen wanting to go for a ride. I’ve never owned a Ferrari but most of those girls…
Yeah, it’s very local to me. Good thing I don’t have 26 large burning a hole in my pocket.
Aston DB7 on the SF Bay Area Craigslist:
This isn’t a car (or cars) I had and ran outta runway on but cars I dearly wanted but could not get the idiot owner to sell them.
I’m sure by now (I’m always late to these parties) someone has posted up that the IIHS is a shill for insurance companies and will say ANYTHING to prop up the “Speed Kills” mantra. You ask, “Why would they do such a thing?” Because they base their rates upon our driving records and getting more tickets written equals…
How ‘bout a ‘70 Boss 302 engine (Cleveland block 302) in a Morris Minor. I saw it at the local British car meet about 25 years ago. I think I’ve got a picture of it (film camera, print). Also how ‘bout a Mini on an MR2 chassis. I’m not sure that an engine swap ‘cuz it was literally a full Gen1 MR2 chassis under an…
