Yep, not only did they fuck up and get in trouble than they lied about it. The vandalism was bad enough but the lying is just going to give the Brazilian authorities the excuse to really drop the hammer on these guys.

Tourists will make whatever shit up they want if they get caught up in legal trouble and think they can talk their way out of it.

It’s basically state sponsored kidnapping at that point and families are forced to raise money to pay the “fine”.

The earlier article has certainly exposed a lot of American ignorance about the realities of foreign travel and that a Passport from a G7 country is not a get out of jail free card.

The only difference between what happens every day to careless tourists in Rio and what’s happening with Lochte and co. now is that the latter are high enough profile for the international press to pick up the story.
