I tend to think the opposite. It’s not that rape scenes are being toned down, it’s that most (typically male) filmmakers and writers only know how to film overtly scary rape scenes if they are violent (The Accused, Dr. Melfi’s rape scene in the Sopranos). If only violent rapes are depicted, then the average person

While I still actually like going to SDCC (I’ll miss it this year, after ten straight years), I’m over the audience Q&A portion and don’t get why it still keeps going. I’d rather listen to the cast of some show I like just riff and bullshit with each other for 40-50 minutes instead of pissing away 15 minutes for the

Another possibility - Sandra Oh left in part because of the same toxic issues on set, and Ellen Pompeo figured if this helps cause someone she likes working with to bail, it’s finally time to put her foot down?

What the fuck is this trash-ass bullshit.

I think Katrina’s more than notable enough to keep having films about it made. When the Levees Broke was also an actual documentary, but definitely a good companion piece to anything new that dramatizes Katrina.

Yeah, a recurring miniseries, a la Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story, would be a good thing to help brutally break down things like Katrina and the 9/11 cleanup.

I guess what helped me is 1. I have no ear for people from other countries trying to pull off other accents (Sepinwall and others being able to notice when British actors’ native accents slip through in performances is something I never pick up on) and 2. Though not all British people have the stereotypical British

I LOVE the first three seasons, but S4 felt like Community’s “Gas Leak” fourth season, a bunch of sendups to what people liked in the past and little else. Aaron McGruder wasn’t involved in that fourth season, so I’m hoping he’s back for a S5. If not, I’ll approach anything new very cautiously.

I only want refs with outsized personalities back if players gain the ability to punch them and not get suspended forever. If you want chaos, give me real chaos of refs sprawled on the court unconscious after they ejected someone for a casual look in their direction.

I LOVE Annie Clark, so her producing this has me excited for the album. I’m already planning on seeing S-K when they’re at the Palladium in November. Fingers crossed for an Annie guest appearance (she’s in LA a lot nowadays), but I’ll be happy to just experience S-K live for the first time.

Masseduction, her self-titled ‘14 album, and Strange Mercy are good places to start. If you dig those, check out her older stuff (Marry Me, Actor) and her David Byrne collab album (Love This Giant). MassEducation is a nice spin on the Masseduction songs, but a very different aesthetic.

May the legend of Dick Mountain continue forever.

So who’s call was it to bail on Brook Lopez (and I guess Julius Randle too) for Michael Beasley, Lance and the other randos the Lakers signed last offseason?

I’ve been seeing a bunch of concerts lately, mostly St. Vincent performances. I’ve been trying to check off people I never saw before (Nine Inch Nails, Florence previously) and more recent artists that interest me (Jenny Lewis tomorrow, Mitski in July). Any recommendations of muscians who are really worth seeing live

Well, I didn’t read anything about Drogon dying stupidly like his brothers did, so I guess that’s a small positive to take away?

As a Wings fan, I’m going to be fascinated watching this play out. I wish Ken Holland the best, but I’ve been ready to give him the heave-ho for a while, even if Stevie Y wasn’t walking through that door. That said, Ken gets to operate his own rebuild with two elite guys already on the roster. I’m curious what he can

I figure part of the problem is people taking a narcissistic, ownership-type view of who they follow on social media and what kind of content is generated. People take the approach that those they follow are there to entertain you, and don’t like it once they go off course (in a non-monstrous way) and start talking

Should the MCU bother with non-fans at all going forward? The MCU is the closest thing to what Star Wars was in the 70s and 80s (and since, at least for the original films) as far as genre media that etches itself into pop culture. Not everyone we know watches EVERY MCU film, but I think many we know watch a bunch of

Not exactly relevant, but I’ve found I can’t help saying Ian Rapoport’s name like “Eeeeee-aaaaannn Raaa-po-po-po-port,” a la that bit from the Little Drummer Boy. It’s involuntary now.

So, do Chucky and Mayock not trust these scouts’ opinions because they think they’re insurgents trying to undermine them for booting Reggie McKenzie? Philosophical differences? The most passive-aggressive way of saying they’re incompetent, but waiting until Year 2 to make these moves?
