total mouse.. we had pet mice for about 5 years.. there can be plenty of smart little mice.. there are also dumb ones, mean, bitey ones and sweet cuddly ones.. (at our high point, we had over 70 mice at a time.. things got crazy...) we had some very clever little ones.

i generally move mine to the oven after the browning portion of the event. or if it's a really large roast (ie too big for my roasting pan..) will do it on the counter in my huge electric roasting pan.. or in the slow cooker if it's a really tough cut that will need all day to simmer down...
