A friend switched from a CFL array (23w power/bulb, lumens equivalent to 100 w tungsten, so 1/4 of the juice) to LEDs (17w power, same equivalency) with a more conducive spectrum. Yield is less than with HPS, but this is for personal use (approx. 8 oz of bud per 4 mo. grow).

They were hybrids; mostly flapping but with jet assist for when you have to make a white-knuckled aerial escape from Harkonnens. I envisioned them as graceful flyers. The movie ‘thopters looked soooo like some bad 60s-era trick photography, I groaned when I saw them.
