Yeah, something as ridiculous as having a brooding white dude in every incarnation of their assassin character unless it's DLC or a shitty Vita title. And Lara Croft is always the same character. Harder to change that up - you probably wouldn't want to see James Bond suddenly turn female, I take it?

Ha. Totally right. In all the discussion of this topic, this is one of the few issues that hasn't been addressed - the presumption as to what the devs must think customers 'expect' out of female animation.
