Thank you for saying this! I was thinking the same thing through the entire episode. I even wanted to call the actor who played him "Louis Gossett Jr Jr," but thought no one would get the joke.

I love how they make fun of the absurd (and totally unnatural) exposition that is so much a part of the dialogue in these formulaic network shows: "I am so happy that you came back, to New Orleans, to take over the practice, after your older brother, Mitchard Grinder, retired…" It cracks me up for some reason.

Fred Savage is a master at doing the silent, incredulous "Seriously!!!" look or double take.

I liked a lot about this episode, but felt that in the final third everything kind of collapsed in on itself, and the show became a little trite and strained. The whole thing about Mitch having his own show again versus staying in town and at the firm - I just don't think this show has been on long enough to earn that

Thanks so much, Allison. I really appreciate your speedy and helpful responses.

Since there doesn't appear to be a Grinder review this week, I will say that last night's ep didn't quite work. I mean, the writing was still above-average (for the most part), and there were some great moments and solid jokes, but, like you said, it was a bit of a grind (or grate). The final third really collapsed in

No Grinder review this week?

She is SMOKING hot (literally, in this episode).

My understanding was that he wanted to down a Mountain Dew INSTEAD of smoking pot.

Michael, your comments about the director's cinematography were brilliant.

Another great ep. The cop has got to stop scowling (it's getting old), but at least she was barely in this one. Possessed Kelly is the hottest Kelly.

Thanks for addressing the Olyphant in the room. There is no such thing as too much Olyphant!

I agree that she should be a lead. I also think she doesn't really belong on this show, and that it does her no favors.

Good point! Devane has been hit-and-miss up to now on this show, but he was golden this episode.

Wow, that was such a terrific episode. And it just kept getting better and better, right to the very end. The direction was first-rate, and the way the two stories (the present Thanksgiving, and flashbacks to Dean's disagreement with his director) intersected was sophisticated and not at all obstructive. A lot of people online share your opinion (especially on imdb), but I thought she was terrific in the first two episodes, and fits right in with the rest of the cast. The same, sadly, cannot be said for the actress who plays the cop. Whenever she is on screen, she takes me right out of the show.

This was the first episode so far I didn't love. Too much of it felt like filler, and I have never been a fan of TV psychedelia, especially when it looks as cheap as it did tonight. That said, this show is still kicking ass, and I would rather watch this than almost anything else on TV. But, man, that cop character is

Bruce was brilliant as Ronald Reagan on Fargo, which made the Nancy Reagan anti-drug clip here even more fun.

I feel your pain. I love Mom (although last night's episode was a dud). By the way, the AV Club used to review Mom, but that reviewer left to go to another website.

A Two and a Half Men - Big Bang Theory crossover episode, in which genius Sheldon Cooper cures Charlie Sheen's HIV.
