I thought it meant I'd missed a plot line regarding Shireen's parentage. Can't imagine why that would be relevant to this show or the books. Thanks so much for the input.

I'm not suggesting I (or anyone) could hold it against him…I'm more saying that it shows just how powerful he is and that he's willing to do what's necessary to achieve the "right" ends. It couldn't have been an easy task to accomplish.

The character reformation of show-Varys stopped short when he had the man who castrated him shipped over in a box, though. I think that's sufficient to establish that he's capable of doing all the sinister things he could potentially do going forward - whether written in the books or not.
