You are describing PSS tires, IMHO.

In my experience, stickier tires will also have a much more progressive breakaway and are much easier to rein in when they do let go. My track experience has been limited to LeMons, so the stickiest tires I’ve had the pleasure of trying have a 200 treadwear rating. I ran my first several races on all-season rubber.

The giant frontal area is do to the fucking stupid pedestrian crash safety laws. Plus that damn law made all of the cars today look super bloated.
