PAs are not union eligible positions. They’re generally seen as the most entry level position you can get in production, where you prove yourself as reliable, competent, and able to follow instructions. You make your connections and hustle and try to move up into union eligible positions.

A YouTube video with nearly 900,000 views titled “Why Anthem Should Scare You | Has EA Destroyed Bioware?” just miiiight be the type of thing that the second-to-last paragraph of this article is talking about.

Assistant salary is based on a 60-hour workweek. So your first 40 are at your regular hourly rate and then the next 20 are calculated at time-and-a-half just like any other job. If you only work 40 hours that week, you still get paid for 60. That’s how they justify it. But like others have said, days generally go

In that industry, yes. ALWAYS. Or more correctly they try the not-at-all-workable trick of calling it $600 a week SALARY.

Most, if not all, entertainment industry employees are “exempt” employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act, which is why assistants at agencies and on productions can be paid a salary that equates to below minimum wage. Ellie wrote an article in 2016 about an Obama executive action bumping the salary limit from $24k

Hi there, so our industry is largely union, for non-union employees, assistants and such, the work week minimum is 60 hours and a standard starting salary is $600/wk. You are supposed to get OT after 12 hours/day, however, many times non-union employees are asked to not put in for their time or it’s just erased from

The standard week for an assistant is 50 hours in the industry. Your overtime is factored into your weekly rate. A normal day is 9-7. (I did five years as an assistant.)

There is no world in which an assistant (of any kind in the film industry anyway) would only work 40 hours a week. Production days frequently are 10-12 hours a day, but 14-16 is not uncommon either. Longer if it’s a new production or you’re on location. I don’t know anyone in the industry who works 40 hour weeks.

TV show assistant jobs routinely require 50/60 hour workweeks. You’re often in the office as well as on set and/or working with your boss on off-hours in pre- or post-production.

Yeah, more information is needed. But assuming it was California in 2017, the minimum wage was $10.50 an hour for employers with 25 employees or more. 40 hours @ $10.50 = $420 per week. Even 60 hours per week is just $630, excluding overtime.

I can’t make any sense of that, if it’s hourly and she’s expected to work 40 hours it would be $15 and the highest state minimum wage is $12.50 in DC. If it’s salary, the minimum wage is $455 per week. That was supposed to be increased to $913 last year but it was pulled at the last minute.

I’m not sure. That’s $15 an hour based on a 40 hour work week. I’m not away of any place in the US that has a minimum wage above that. Maybe she’s part of a union that has a higher wage.

On a side note, I am rewatching Parks & Recreation, and am yet again gobsmacked by how funny it is (I am still in the early goings; season 3). I also have been relistening to the Comedy Bang Bang best-of episodes, which reoriented me to the brilliance of the late, great Harris Wittels, whose singular comic voice keeps

Alabama would not, in fact, be in the minority should it adopt this policy. Thirty-six other states—including California, New York, Illinois, and Florida—allow governors to make an appointment to fill a U.S. Senate vacancy.

On a sidenote, Wanda’s role should definitely be expanded on Blackish.

I get the feeling you’d see this same article somewhere out there if CHIP continued to go unfunded while Dems held out for DACA. We’d be talking about how Dems don’t give a shit about poor children of color and how our future generations are always left high and dry in favor of a political stunt. I bet it’s a draft on

No, but continued infighting and fracturing along hair-splitting lines certainly will.

JFC, stop using Weinstein as some sort of standard to measure terrible behavior. When you do that, the initial reaction will be, “Oh no, not like that,” which downplays the original behavior in question and further contributes to this problem.

I’m not sure about the more technical categories, but Best Picture can be up to 10. I thought they would fill it up, kind of surprised they stopped at 9!
