Yeah, the lore wasn’t the problem, it was that this whole spinoff felt forced and disconnected from the main franchise. No one thinks “serious scifi adventure” when they think of Buzz Lightyear; everything we see of the franchise in the Toy Story films makes him seem like a cheesy b-movie hero for kids. And people

Hey kids! Do you like Toy Story?

It. Wasn’t. Fun.

I’d say Doctor’s explanation is accurate, but it stems not just from fan reactions but also from how Pixar marketed the film. I was intrigued by the concept of a “real” Buzz Lightyear in a serious movie from the teaser which had a melancholy feel. Then the real trailers appeared heavily featuring a wisecracking robot

I was actually kinda surprised by how much of a straightforward science fiction movie Lightyear was, down to incorporating hard SF concepts like time dilation. The second half is a lot goofier, but the first half feels kind of like the space adventures Robert Heinlein or Andre Norton wrote in the 1950s.

Comedies are not a dying art—(Really? You couldn’t think of another line to use?) They evolve, ebb and flow, along with our reactions and perceptions. Sometimes, as with Nobody—they meld into partly drama, action, etc...Free Guy, The Mitchells Vs The Machines, Shiva Baby, Licorice Pizza, The Suicide Squad, Riders of

Seriously, B&W couldn’t find literally anybody else to take over to pump out two more seasons?

Chappelle (and nearly every single comedian like him) has made a career out of taking the piss out of minority and majority groups alike.

Saying that I’m a fairly liberal individual should be an unnecessary preamble to my post, but since I’ll be attacked by the thought police and liberal warriors that apparently dominate this site, both on staff and in the comment sections, I think it’s necessary in this instance.

Much of Chappelle’s “Closer” set revolves around his admittance that he doesn’t understand them, but doesn’t have to. He just has to respect that they’re having a human experience, and that same rule applies to all sexes, genders, races, etc.

Remember like, two days ago, when a shit-ton of clearly cishet white dudes (who obviously consider having watched The Chappelle Show a decade ago to be the equivalent of having a “One Black Friend” card to play and are still posting Tyrone Biggums gifs to this day) weighed in to say, “no, it’s cool, I helped

The shitty state of The AV Club getting us rid of people like you is the greatest argument in favor of Jim Spanfeller’s management I’ve seen yet!

God people so love shitting on the Avatar sequels. Dances With Wolves, Pocahontas, FernGully, it’s just soooo original every time.

Thanks. The commentariat groupthink about Avatar got tiresome a long time ago.

If you asked me, I will say “Because I enjoyed the first film and Jim Cameron makes great entertainments”, and I would not be the only one to give you that answer. More people go to the movies than just the io9 commentariat.

I’m tired of all the hate Avatar gets.

Feels more like Warm Bodies than Zombieland to me, and I’m here for it.

The internets.

Jungle book imo

I like Favreau’s Jungle Book waaaaaaaaaaaay more than its animated counterpart, which I find kinda flimsy and hate the “sketch” era of Disney animation from a visual standpoint.
