Maybe he means he only likes anatomically modern humans. No habilis or erectus, please, and Denisovans and Neanderthals are iffy.

I don’t understand why people who want a hypoallergenic dog don’t just get a goddamn standard poodle - they are smarter, easier to train, and lighter weight than anything crossed with a lab.

I know quite a few people with doodles. They all spent over $1000 for what is basically a boutique mutt. They’re great dogs but highly overpriced. I have a shelter “doodle” that is 75% lab and 25% poodle. I’d take him over a legit bred doodle any day. His curly poodle hair goes down his spine so it’s not visible

What in the stinking fresh hell is this? For a second there, I thought it sounded like Brad was maybe interested in a woman of color and a Punjabi Sikh woman (who would btw be named Kaur, not Khalsa) no less. But of course, it’s a white blonde chick who has appropriated the name AND culture AND bastardized the religion

Have you ever seen “Upstairs, Downstairs”? DA is more than a little ripoff of it, and I’m surprised Julian Fellowes wasn’t sued into insolvency for intellectual property infringement, or whatever the crime might be called. To the point where the family, can’t remember their name, employed a gay butler, and UD was shot

And the fantasy that the servants are treated well and like their jobs. I agree, it is total escapism, and we should all know that the DA servants are not representative of what life was actually like for people working in those homes at the time.

There was a BBC show called “The Edwardian Country House”, from 2002, that was a sort of reality show in that they recruited people to be both family and staff for a set period, and they had to run the household like it would have been run in Edwardian times - while wearing Edwardian dress. No surprise, at the end,

Technically, the Dowager’s argument was for serfdom, not slavery. But also, she’s meant to sound like a relic—the narrative doesn’t take her side. It’s worth pointing out that, while the Dowager is waxing fondly about tying serfs to the land, it’s another wealthy woman (Sybil) who is defying her father and grandmother

I understand your (well made) point here, but it also feels like a bit like chastising people for enjoying escapism and Downton Abbey for catering to them. Downton Abbey was popular because it was nice to watch pretty people in gorgeous costumes have personal dramas and only vaguely interact with the outside world.

I mainly just watch it for the costume porn and to watch the Dowager Countess and Mary own everyone.

Siiiiiiiiigh.  Yet another reason leaving mainpage moderation up to authors is a bad fucking call.

Jesus, thank you for this. I read that and thought “Did this person literally call a dark brown Indian actress who has been amplifying womanism, queer people and body acceptance a WHITE FEMINIST?”

I’ve never starred so many comments in one article. Almost all agree that there is something seriously wrong with Jezebel. The tone of this article is childish and unnecessarily mean spirited.  Jameela is not the problem.  This self entitled snark for its own sake nonsense that passes for feminist writing is.

I just reread the original Teen Vogue article that brought Ducca to fame and I don’t see evidence that she is guilty of “misdefining the word gaslighting in an essay”. She uses a textbook example of the definition and does an acceptable (B-/C+) job at supporting her thesis.

And don’t get me started on the way they treat Taylor Swift around here. It’s like the only people who are good enough are the ones who don’t try to be good.

Oh puleeze. She hasn’t stolen anything, and supporting the tone of this article does nothing to be more inclusive of people of different sizes. Save your white feminism ire for people who deserve it, like maybe white people who wrote this article snarking on a non-white person.

Jameela is a disabled WoC. Too much snark.

It’s so perplexing to me! It’s like nothing any famous woman does in the way of activism is ever good enough. The go-to approach seems to be to pick holes in whatever they’re doing, and then gleefully point out all the holes. (For some reason Cardi B is an exception to this rule. Everything she does seems to be

Stop it. Stop attacking women for having opinions, speaking out, and trying to make things better. What the hell happened to Jezebel? I’ve been around here for years, and recently the rhetoric has just become so hateful and isolating. This is ridiculous.

“has been co-opted recently by women of totally socially-acceptable, skinny shapes and sizes who think the movement is just for anyone who feels good or wants to show off their armpit hair”...You guys know that Jameela has a history of eating disorders since childhood, right? And that she was severely fat-shamed by
