Don’t let the GOP find out—spending money on science is bad for god or something.

While I agree with you, there’s something special about it being done by the public. We get to feel like a part of it. When it’s private, there’s always that feeling that it’s someone else doing it and we’re merely observers. But such is life.

This is a basic physics problem. To reach the outer planets in a timely fashion you need to go really really fast. In order to orbit the planet, you need to slow down a lot by the time you’ve arrived. Otherwise you are going too fast for the planet’s gravity to catch you. We are talking about speeds of many kilometers

We already do. All the inner planets have orbiters, and there are several major Jupiter missions coming up in the early 20's as well, one of which I believe includes an orbiter to study the atmosphere.

I wish we could get to a point where we could just park a satellite around each planet, leave it there and study the hell out of it.

Yeah conjunctions of planets (particularly the “closer” ones) are common-ish, but what complicates matters is that it takes a while to actually get out there. Just having Jupiter and Saturn on the same side of the sun doesn’t help since it still takes at least 22 months (Voyager I did this the quickest, Voyager II, Cas

A really cool planet, and it’s interesting that our window to get one spacecraft to easily (“easily”) visit all four of our system’s gas giants just so happened to occur right when we had the technology capable of making it happen.

I’m curious to know how often that happens - probably not that infrequently. We did just have five planets (well, six if you count earth) line up recently. Of course the trick is not just having them line up, but having them do so with enough space between them for the spacecraft to get from one to the other without

Nice try, but you’re wrong. The protesters in Ferguson and Baltimore didn’t show up with rifles saying “We’ll open fire if you try to make us leave”. Huge difference.

Idiot and terrorist are not mutually exclusive terms....these white folksmare both.

102% agreed

Also to answer your question, on the backs of slave labour.

It's not what the "terrorists" are doing.....it's how the federal gov't and the media is handling it that offends me. 12 year old black kids in national parks with pellet guns are killed on sight in this country; apparently, fake military personnel that take over federal grounds are jamokes that shouldn't be taken

ter·ror·ism (n): the use of violence and or intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

This is a text book definition of terrorism, what more do you need me to play up?

We don’t need to go in with guns blazing, but that building does belong to the government, work does need to happen there, and some number of people are out of a job right now. Whether or not they took over an important building is immaterial.

I could get into a detailed discussion on why it is important to label these people as terrorist, but I truly do feel you would willfully ignore any statements I made due to that “Liberals” shade you just threw.

I live in Chicago, the city where the mayor told the leads of the black community if riots took place (riots compared to protests) there would be consequences for those communities. Where are the consequences for these people? I appreciate the word art (I enjoyed “dorks in their best Sunday camo”), but they are armed

I feel like they DO want a fight, even if they’d prefer not to actually get hurt, because it would finally give them any sliver of evidence that the evil government really is against them.

They don’t want a fight.

Exactly. Fuck that jamoke shit. In this country a 12 year old in a park with a pellet gun is deserving of an after the fact state sanctioned summary execution but a bunch of guys tooled up for war occupying a government property is deserving of a “Aww... shucks, boy will be boys.”? No. No.

yes, much better than “protecting the brotherhood” or what the fuck ever
