Mineral ones last longer and actually provide better protection...only if they are not washed off by sweat or swimming. The fact that they need more frequent re-application in the heat and the fact they turn you pasty (unless you spend a lot of money for a tinted one) is primarily why they’re less popular.

Mineral sunscreens tend to be harder to rub in - if applied improperly you look kinda like a ghost. But honestly, it’s a trade off I welcome. From my personal use of it - I’d say it works better than anything else. I think there’s a reason why old school lifeguards still use zinc.

The mineral stuff is the ONLY protection people used until the chemical companies got their hands all up in skin care. The mineral stuff is made from zinc etc., which just plain and simple blocks the sun.

Titanium and zinc oxide sunscreen work much better, but they leave white streaks on the skin and people don’t like that so sunscreen producers switched over to less effective stuff that doesn’t leave a residue.
