Nah, you’d be well within the bounds of etiquette. The books generally say members of the wedding don’t have to give gifts (ok, they say NO ONE has to give a gift), and your friends sound like good people for getting that, too.

My sister and I have this relationship, too, which is nice because we are so incredibly different. We were not close at all as kids.

No, small thank you gifts are common here, too, depending on family custom. My sister and BIL did the same thing for their wedding, and I’ve seen that in several other weddings, too.
