My dress was too long, and I couldn't afford to have it hemmed, so I had to be really careful. I was, however, a little nervous about the ceremony, and when we were walking up the steps at the front of the church, I stepped on my skirt. I heard my bridesmaids gasp, as I had a brief moment of panic, then thought

As a person with both dyslexia and dyscalculia (Yes school was hell) I REALLY take offence to her pretending like it's "SO HAAAARD" for her.

Woof. That HAS to be a joke.

Huh.

I agree completely! This is true! The tipping system is fucked. It's just that personally opting out of what is currently a corrupt system doesn't accomplish anything good. It's awful, and I wish the system would change to the model used in many other countries, but until we actually pass higher minimum wage

Christ, did you not even read ANY of this shit? Sit down.

I finally stopped lurking because YAAAAAAAAAAAAS! I rarely see this pointed out on tipping threads. Pretty much all the large corporate chain restaurants handle tip out that way. Also most if not all have IRS agreements that state that if servers are not claiming 8-10% of TOTAL sales then that money will be allocated

Thank you for your helpful contribution to the conversation. Oh wait....it's not.

Here's the thing, have you ever done it?

And just to be clear, my issue isn't that I think servers don't deserve tips. It's that they should need them. Not getting tipped should be a minor annoyance, not a financial catastrophe. But until such time as the system changes, serves do need tips, and you're only hurting them when you don't.

See, the thing is, I agree with her. She makes the same points that I always do when I talk about the fact that it isn't fair for someone working a full time job to have to depend on the whims of random assholes to be able to make rent in any given month. It isn't fair, and I think the tipping system is honestly one

My best friend is a nurse and she tried to use how shitty her job is as an excuse not to tip. She thinks restaurant workers don't deserve it. I tried to explain that two wrongs don't make a right, and yes her job is hard but she also earns twice what waitresses earn. She just said they were lazy and didn't deserve any

I really think 20% is fine. I was never, ever upset about 20% — that's the standard. More is always welcome, but not required, even for the best service. And look, if I legit screwed up (like say, forgot to put your order in so it took forever to get your food), I didn't expect 20% at that point! That's cool, I

I know right?! I said elsewhere, but like, this woman (and others) who think that servers are swimming in cash because of tipping, LEAVE YOUR SHITTY RETAIL JOB AND START WAITING TABLES THEN. Oh, you don't want to? Hmmm. Maybe it's not as easy to make a bazillion dollars as you say, and you know that.

You'll see similar arguments against public employee unions all the time (or unions in general): Why should they make a living wage when I'm working a shitty job making minimum with no job guarantees?

BRACING FOR MAIN PAGE, CAPTAIN. DISMISSING FINGERS AT THE READY.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL, PEOPLE! WE ARE AT DOUCHECON FIVE!

Even easier than that: download a free tipping app on to your phone. This is 2015, we have the technology.

Oh god. Tipping.

Even easier: move the decimal point, multiply by two.
