Michelle is fabulous and my favourite Destiny's Child. Haters can go see another boring Beyonce concert.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart

Out of interest, what did you make of the Casual Vacancy? I was punching the air while reading it and weeping my happy socialist tears . . .

Software update.

Good on you for pulling off. Your commute sounds hellish. Mine's 20-25 minutes and being a lazy singleton I literally roll out of bed and into the car. In saying that though, automated car driving can't come soon enough.

You're not wrong there.

The higher rates - it's just horrible

I do not like this at all. Nope, no siree, not one bit. Everything about this makes me worry. From the science to the possibilities of huge amounts of victim blaming, to the pop psychologists who are going to start in the with the misogyny, to the result itself. I do not like this.

I'm currently desperately seeking a job in academia. We're known for our easy going ways in academia, but I don't believe my Facebook displays anything I wouldn't admit to at lunch break. My settings are also fairly private.

I was full of sympathy while reading this but your last paragraph was like a kick to the head. Jesus. Evil. I hope your sister, nephew and the rest of your family have wonderful lives ahead of them.

No it's not. Good on you for the thinking on your feet/hard work :)

+10

Well, yes - quite. I think it's really interesting to see the variation in how people have had people treat them with regards to BMI. Like I say, although I could certainly stand to lose weight, no health professional I've ever visited has batted an eyelid over it. And yet there are some stories people have commented

It's amazing the variation between different people's experiences. No two people seem to have had it used in the same way.

I can understand tracking it for a specific reason, but I'd be pretty irritated if my doctor was using it as a one-off tool for diagnosis

That's so strange - and that's the kind of behaviour I really disapprove of (look at me, I'm clutching my pearls, I swear) when they use it as a stick for no apparent reason.

(he also had a lot of flyers for plastic surgery clinics lying around)

That sounds incredibly frustrating

Out of interest, does anyone actually have a GP (or equivalent) who takes the BMI seriously?

Go outside and then come in and complain for half an hour about how cold their arse is.
