Well, yes - quite. I think it's really interesting to see the variation in how people have had people treat them with regards to BMI. Like I say, although I could certainly stand to lose weight, no health professional I've ever visited has batted an eyelid over it. And yet there are some stories people have commented

It's amazing the variation between different people's experiences. No two people seem to have had it used in the same way.

I can understand tracking it for a specific reason, but I'd be pretty irritated if my doctor was using it as a one-off tool for diagnosis

That's so strange - and that's the kind of behaviour I really disapprove of (look at me, I'm clutching my pearls, I swear) when they use it as a stick for no apparent reason.

(he also had a lot of flyers for plastic surgery clinics lying around)

That sounds incredibly frustrating

Out of interest, does anyone actually have a GP (or equivalent) who takes the BMI seriously?

NO. IT IS A HORSE, OF COURSE.

Horses. Definitely horses.

I had one old girl who could only get an effect from very pure stuff - I used to buy it from this little old lady's pet shop and it was stuff she grew and dried herself. And she was a drooler.

*snicker* I really liked that, though I suspect Sundance might be cat lovers for it to have received an award.

Go outside and then come in and complain for half an hour about how cold their arse is.

Wait - you got 'cell' but I couldn't use 'milk'! DAMN YOU UPGOERFIVE

Incidentally, isn't a second roughly the length of time a pendulum on a metre string takes to swing from end to end? Does that rule hold true when it's doh's length of string and translates to a dozenal second (I assume we'd be changing the base unit of time in their first interpretation of the article)

I'm trying to put one of my abstracts through this. I was doing quite well until I got to "traits constructed from a Principle Components Analysis of the observed behaviours . . . "

Man I wish I'd thought of that - and yet that episode still has "and I was gonna tell him something pretty" which is the most beautiful line in the whole series.

I was given a diary a few years ago (I was 24) and I just started keeping one. I had an LJ for years and the diary is a much better, more cathartic way of chronicling my feelings. It's helped me get a handle on quite a few things, relationships, how hugely focussed I am on my career and how much I actually spend on my

This helps me understand some of the article - thanks

I'm competent in maths, but it's never come easily to me. I need to work out all mathematical problems by hand. Much of this article completely escaped me - especially the translation to time.

You broke me completely with this.
