That’s not what he meant by intellectually lazy. He meant its lazy to not bother to define feminism.

He’s not defining it, he’s asking women to define it so he has a more informed idea about all the facets and meanings. He is referencing actual conversations with women here and not saying “here is what feminism is to me, a man, deal with it”
I have issues with choice feminism, to be sure. Everyone has the right to make whatever choice they choose, but some choices are inherently more helpful to the mission of equality than others. Now, on the other hand, we all have to live and function in a patriarchal society. This makes it basically impossible to live…
Yeah, that was a crappy response. Guy comes here to ask a valid question about feminism and seems genuinely interested yet gets flippant comment about how he needs to butt out.
Oh, boo. He’s respectfully asking an honest question.
Interesting topic. I think at its root, feminism is about choice. There are those of us who buy in to fashion and those of us who don’t. There isn’t one “model” of feminism. Am I less of a feminist because I chose to dye my hair and wear makeup? Am I less of a feminist because I chose to wear nice fitting clothes?
That’s certainly a convenient response. Example: several years ago, Sarah Palin tried to invoke “feminism” in this speech. Does that, by definition, make her a feminist?
Consumption is not the locus of empowerment, nor is the locus of happiness, youth, cool, security, fun, enlightenment or love, but that won’t stop half the creative class trying to convince us of these things through advertising.
Going to agree with brighter here, and also point out that there is plenty of backlash against “choose my choice” feminism, even here on Jez.
It’s always about the almighty dollar. I’m all for women making their own companies and products, and succeeding at doing so. However, I actually find it pretty insulting to be told that I am somehow empowering myself by purchasing their products. This “buy it so you’re better” thing is what we have hated about male…
There’s a softly trolling mess of a trend piece in the New York Times today that leads with the news that “a young…
Yup. That’s why Miranda Lambert is the best thing to come out of “country” music in a long fuckin’ while.
who said if country music is a salad, men are the lettuce and women are just tomatoes.
Just like Rock, Country is being smothered out by an aging monied class of executives who are looking for ROI on artists instead of pushing music to something greater.
I’m willing to say that it wasn’t Hillary, if only based on the theory that we probably would have heard about it by now, given the fact that she can’t even take a dump that has corn in it without the conservative media analyzing it.
But a REALLY COOL heroin den.
it looks like they’re in a heroin den
My summer to-do list:
I remember reading somewhere, and agreeing, that when someone claims they are 'alpha' what they are actually doing is giving some faux anthropological excuse for treating everyone else like crap.
So much derp in one video:
