But I also believe that people aren’t really listening to him and understanding what he’s been through.

Oh we’re “both siding” bigots who fundamentally believe some humans shouldn’t have the same right to exist as everyone else?

Which is exactly what happened when Bill Cosby said the reason Black men were struggling is because their pants were baggy and they chose to be criminals.

I’m not shouting down his concerns about anti-Blackness. There’s a consistent thread here which is “you’re not engaging with the REAL issue he’s putting forward, and that’s just so telling” and it’s entirely frustrating because yes, absolutely, we need people talking about this. His experience is not a handwave.

But he

Those Mystic belugas are weirder than your seagoing kind.

I always want to know, if being woke is bad, what should we be? Asleep?

For what it’s worth, the people I see gleefully submitting multi-paragraph defenses of Chappelle in comment sections these days appear to be mostly het white men. Joe Rogan types flooding the internet with what they think are formal philosophical deconstructions of wokeness. Not that they aren’t allowed to have their

I think that’s what felt the most uncomfortable about The Closer, his lack of self-introspection, empathy, and actualization. Chappell made some valid arguments but they felt hollow as the presentation was more “some dude bragging about how rich he is” coupled with “old man yells at clouds”. This is partly why his

Gadsby achieves what Pryor did in terms of opening herself up in achingly personal ways that are as painful as they are hilarious.

“Wokeness” is just their latest branding of “political correctness”. While the name may change, the line of bullshit stays the same.

I remember seeing another comedian (a huge name who I can’t remember) do a bit in his set about one of his kids coming out. It was hilarious and touching because it dealt with how the world had changed and he felt out of touch, but ultimately landed on empathy and trying to understand.

Wasn’t Howard Stern doing the same thing in the 1980s and 1990s? He was being NBC to fuck with him.

I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head, and the fact that Chappelle doesn’t think Hannah Gadsby isn’t funny makes it all the more clear that there isn’t really anything left for him to say as a relevant comic.

Honestly, I see all the complaining about “wokeness” as childish outrage from grown men/women that can’t accept a world where their “jokes” are not accepted.

The fear of irrelevance seems to be exactly it in my opinion. All of this just seems like publicity for a special that just wasn’t funny. I actually got through this one because, truth be told, I didn’t find it to be nearly as offensive as the last one. The last one was just so...mean...that it was cringey. When I

Thank you for your service.

I mean, everyone has been eating his flesh for a couple thousand years, seems like a good time to return the favor.

Sex chromosomes are different than mammalian ones and work in reverse in birds. Males have two Z chromosomes, while females have a Z and a W.

Sex determination is not always “X” and “Y” chromosomes, like we talk about for humans and other mammals. Birds (and reptiles, and some fish and amphibians) use a different system with a “Z” and “W” chromosome, and the females are the ones that are heterogametic. Females are “ZW” and males are “ZZ” in birds.

The only biology course I ever took was in high school. Still, if a female bird reproduces without breeding, how does it create a male offspring?
