The US got exactly what it wanted out of its occupation of Afghanistan for decades — staggering amounts of wealth transferred to the military, defense contractors, and mercenary groups, continual justification for increased defense budgets, and a steady supply of dark money for our intelligence services via resumed

The propagandists of our country used the abuse and suffering of women to sell the justification for an un winnable war to as large an audience and political spectrum as possible. Meanwhile the corrupt government and military we installed were horrendously abusive to Afghan women.

Feminist lobbying did not make the US invade Afghanistan. It did, however, provide cover on the left (however you’d like to construe that) for a war of conquest, occupation, and exploitation.

I don’t think this piece gives too much power to feminists, per se, so much as it points out the easy/fundamental alliance between (white) Western bourgeois feminism and rapacious imperialism. Feminist lobbying did not make the US invade Afghanistan. It did, however, provide cover on the left (however you’d like to

US foreign policy doesn’t give a shit about women. It’s not why we invaded 20 years ago. Women’s rights were used beatify the argument, but invasion would have happened anyway.

This assigns too much importance to feminists. Afghanistan was never invaded to protect women or to appease western feminists. It was invaded to protect US National security and economic interests, period. Feminist lobbying would have had no bearing on the decision to invade Afghanistan either way.

Saying feminism was used to justify the invasion of Afghanistan is revisionist history, IMO.

If ever there was a moment for monied, powerful white feminists to stand to the side and allow for Afghan and Muslim women to direct the narrative and guide the future of aid, this is it.”

Should America occupy Afghanistan? No. Absolutely not.

Let’s not with the “all fandoms suck.” Bullshit.

They are not even pro-birth, the red states have the highest infant mortality rate. They are pro-controlling/punishing women.

Fellow Texan here and it drives me insane how Texans will yell about Washington putting their nose in our business but those same Texans cheer when Abbott bans local governments from making their choices. The thing I hate more than anything in politics is the hypocrisy and it is rampant here.

They are pro birth, not pro life ... Once free of the womb, you're on your own

Texas Republican Logic: Masks cant be mandated in schools to potentially save the lives of thousands of children but abortions can be made illegal to ‘save’ the life of a single fetus.  how the heck does any of this make sense?

Republicans oppose education in general, but especially for not-rich people. Because the ignorant masses are there to serve and obey, as has been their purpose in life since time immemorial.

Republicans generally oppose public schools, so I wonder if part of the strategy is hoping concerned parents will just home school, thus lowering the number of public school students, thus lowering the required funding, thus lowering and possibly eliminating public funding for schools altogether. Conservatives would

It’s not even disregard - they seem ideologically determined to do exactly the wrong thing whenever possible.

Let me think, is there a word to describe a governor who has total disregard for the safety and wellbeing of his constituents?

Among other things, I’m sure she saw her performance last season and didn’t like what she saw; and the producers DEFINITELY told her to be more interesting this season.

To be fair, Wendy is a completely different person this season and it’s clear something is going on with her.
