Dear god, it was nice to see Star Trek directed in a way that is calm and thoughtful again.

“Give me more gentile Romulan couples.”

Think of how those 60's then late 80's early 90's inspired “future people’s” clothes/sets looked....

I think the MCU can support multiple heroes.. Keep Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau can become either Pulsar, Photon, or Spectrum.

Romulas blowing up happens in the Prime universe, aside from the Kelvin one where the new films are. I’m not sure what nerd would be able to run that line without going against the well established canon. Even if it originated with the first Abrams trek, there’s been a lot about the fall out of not just Romulas

I was talking about this with a friend of mine yesterday, before either of us saw the premiere, of course. He asked what I thought about this Very Online complaint from righty-types that the show is going to be “woke.” I asked him back how they justify being Trek fans when the core message of the show has always been

It’s not like Data could hold grudges.  If anything I bet it was infuriating to Maddox how this robot guy kept just calmly sending him emails.  Power move.

I’ve always been impressed that Spock didn’t kill McCoy’s racist ass.

I think Patrick Stewart is just that good, and at a doesn’t-look-it 80 he can draw upon some firsthand experience as well.

Has anyone checked his attic for a magic portrait?

Any word why Boden and Fleck aren’t returning? While Captain Marvel wasn’t the most visually inventive MCU film, I thought the storytelling and character work were very solid, and the film fit comfortably into the MCU ”house style.”

Hell, he looks like he hasn't aged since the 80's "I, Claudius" that I saw on PBS back in the day.

Patrick Stewart barely looks like he’s aged since the first season of TNG.

I was amazed (but not overly surprised) that Patrick Stewart was able to slide back into that character so well.

If you watch the first season of TOS, the humans come off as super-racist and paranoid around aliens most of the time, even with Spock.

Even more sense when you remember, the Narada from Star Trek was a Romulan mining ship enhanced by Borg tech Nero stole from the Tal Shiar in the wake of the destruction of Romulus and that the Tal Shiar had been experimenting with Borg tech for a while to enhance Romulan ships.

My fave line so far:

I enjoyed it and I’m keen to see where they’re going with these synths and the connection to the Borg cube shown at the end of the episode.

If half a century of Star Trek stories have taught us anything, it’s that the Utopia the Federation claimed was never truly existed. Or, at least, it only exists as long as people fight for it. Measure of a Man is a perfect example. Starfleet was ready and willing to sell a Starfleet officer with decades of service

And so now, so very tired and away from it all, the former captain of the Enterprise spends his days as a vinter.”
