I... kind of want the Ursula sweatshirt thing.
I think people are mainly jumping on him for the comparison rather than the abstract logical claim that one can compare the badness of two things without saying either thing is good on balance. In other words, people disagree with the idea that one form of rape is worse - not with the idea that saying one form of rape…
Well...there's no such thing as a non-violent rape, so...I can't see arguments weaker than that. But if he did make the stranger/non stranger distinction that's quite foolish.
i could easily see a victim perceiving a knifepoint stranger rape as less-bad than being raped by a trusted friend using weapons of verbal threats and force. the fact he never questioned his categorization of which is worse is part of the problem.
You are correct, it's not an endorsement. And yet it's still an arbitrary value judgement that has not real correlation over which is "worse."
Yes, both are equally terrible. The only difference between first and second degree murder is planning. No murder victim's family is ever relieved by the fact that the murder wasn't premeditated. Just like no date rape victim is ever glad they at least got to have dinner before they were assaulted.
Also, why are date rape and knife point rape mutually exclusive? Like people aren't violently assaulted and raped by people they know. Like rape isn't violent enough in itself. The stupidity and ignorance is stupefying.
I wonder even spawned that tweet? Are women coming up to him and demanding that he recognize the seriousness of their assaults? I wish I could fart on his nose.
I don't think that's a very apt analogy for what he said, though. This would be more like "being murdered by your friend at a party isn't as bad as being murdered by a stranger." Obviously, the victim is still dead. If a person is raped by a friend or a stranger, it's still rape.
I don't know. She's 17, not 12.
Somehow this is reminding me of Helena Bonham Carter. In a good way. Everything Helena Bonham Carter is always in a good way.
And you're the last thing he wants to deal with at the end of the day, WTF? I deal with annoying people all day I don't get to punch them and oh yeah I also don't have 100lbs of muscle on them either. Having a bad day does not mean you get to punch people. She is really all kinds of wrong on this one.
This puts me in the uncomfortable position of having to agree with Jenny McCarthy, and I don't like it.
This picture accurately encapsulates the moment in my childhood when I realized I was so.fracking.gay.
excuse me? MARRY Ron Swanson and have his babies!
Never forget.
I'm pleasantly surprised that these missed connections aren't more sexual harassment-y.
J. Lo did the real role reversal for the "I luh ya Papi
video (damn, I have a hard time typing that silly name), with hot male models in speedos on a boat serving the ladies...Callie covered it in March.
