Bison are an animal that really should not be fucked with. I grew up near a place that has a herd, and I was always taught that if one was on the road, you stopped and waited for it to move, because it could and would charge a vehicle.

A couple of years ago, I found a beached grey seal all wrapped up in a fishing net (awful to see) on a sand bar off Nantucket. He had been there a while and sea gulls were hanging around him in a menacing manner. This bothered me so much I thought I would try to get the net off him...I got within 5 feet and I swear to

Yep. Aggression, plus the seal/sea lion’s tendency toward mischief. They (like dolphins) have a physical & sometimes terrifying sense of humor. There are many places where people dive & snorkel among sea lions, & for the most part they ignore you, or just swim circles to investigate, or maybe nose up to your face or n

Just about any animal can go from “aw cute” to “oh shit” in an instant (especially wild ones, but domestic ones as well). I was just an an event today that was some sort of pit bull “play party”/adoptathon in which people were encouraged to bring their dogs to “socialize and have fun”. Within a half hour, there were

I swear it’s like the Darwin awards. Every time people travel I feel like they need rules. Stick w your fucking tour group, don’t feed wild animals, and for pete’s sake don’t desecrate sacred spaces. Remember there was that article a while back about the Chinese government doing this to show tourists how to behave? htt

It wasn’t hungry for little girl. That’s playful sealion stuff. What sucks is when they the fish on your line.

Right? I feel like we spend so little time around animals, except for those we have bred the hell out of for our amusement and food. Wild animals, especially predators, are beyond our ken.

There are signs ALL OVER the docks in Steveston telling people not to feed the animals. The harbour master is actually super livid with these people. Not only was there a potential for this little girl to be killed or seriously injured, but the sea lion is also at risk if it returns and shows an eagerness to pluck

People need to be careful about approaching animals especially when they don’t know when animals are displaying keep away signs. Some people mistake their signs of warning as signs of friendliness. They don’t know the animal is saying stay away.

A divemaster I know who works off of Vancouver Island once told me how he was swimming with a sea lion who was interested in playing with him.

So... American sea lion invades Canada and attacks innocent child.

I can’t get the linked article to load, but according to this one, the officials are rightfully pissed:

I’m rather impressed by how fast that guy jumped into the water to save her.

Predators will fuck you up every time, even if they look cute.

Glad everyone’s okay. Do not feed wild animals, especially ones that weigh three times as much as you do.

It’s annoying at times, but understandable because how a stimulant affects someone with ADHD really is counterintuitive. I mean, once they witness a properly-working medication doing its job for someone with ADHD, hopefully they’d come around. Or even witnessing someone down a few cups of coffee and get tired instead

This is something that I’ve found really annoying talking about medication with people who don’t have ADHD. They think stimulants = speed and makes you likewise speedy and strung out. But obviously if you have ADHD and are prescribed something speedy, it’s because you need it. Like, hmm, maybe someone with ADHD and

As someone who wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD until the ripe old age of 31 - medication is a life changer. Stimulants get a bad rap because they’re so easily abused by people without ADHD, but they really changed things for me. Prednisone is a steroid, so it’s not really comparable, and stimulants aren’t like SSRIs,

That is really cool (and weird) and I’m sorry you had to go through inpatient to find it out. I’ve been really lucky in that Lamictal was my silver bullet and one-size-fits-all antipsych since about 2010. I came off my SSRI in 2011 because we realized while it was supposed to be dealing with my OCD, it may have been

(So, hey, this is only slightly related but I’m saying it because I can’t recall seeing a post directly by you that I can say this in: You are consistantly my favorite part of the Gizmodo media group. Keep up the fantastic work!)
