Just fyi, Bomani’s Twitter is worth following, even if you don’t like sports. He spends a lot of time schooling white fans on race, and it’s pretty funny at times. :)

This is actually a recurring theme in American history, the maltreatment of veterans. My hubs did his PhD on the Bonus Army and Civil War pensions, which if I’m understanding correctly became the basis of social security. But they had to fight hard for those benefits. :/

BTW these fuckers live in a part of the state that has lovely native vegetation that they could use instead insisting on green grass that’s imported from elsewhere!

I’m pretty certain that those were old order Mennonites. There are large communities of them in that neck of the woods. But to an outsider I can totally understand why you’d think Amish. :)

Not surprised it’s a parent complaining. I know several college profs and they have relayed stories of upset parents complaining about grades they’ve given or to get information that’s covered by FERPA and HIPAA laws. It’s a bit hard for me to wrap my brain around because I come from a very different culture than most…

Wow, you got people projecting their issues all over your comment! It sounds to me that you figured out what works for your family and rolling with it. After all every family is unique, and what works with one kid, may not work with another. :)

Loved this write up and makeover! In my early twenties i would’ve been classified as a tomboy, but i’m a cis het gal (which is a whole ‘nother can of cultural worms, cuz mixed). Nowadays i’m the master of middle-aged frump, but I’m still not a heavy make-up wearer, even though i know how to do a full face for special…

Dangit my Taiwanese in laws are devout Buddhists of a sect where this is not allowed. It’s going to be soo boring when they pass. On the other hand their sect has a cool program for getting families to let med students practice on their deceased relatives... I should see if they’re part of the program. :)

So... do they take on this guy? Cuz my friends who are into woo have moved on to his stuff now... some people just want to believe...

Just out of curiosity, what are the racial/ethnic percentages of the people who hire and fire teachers? Or the people who train them? That’s the other half to this problem. I can’t click through cuz I used up my free stories for the month.
